Working Students

  1. Annie Jones1. Annie Jones, 22, graduated from Iowa State University with a major in Animal Science and a minor in General Business in the spring of 2009. She immediately hightailed it to the east coast to become a working student for Bonnie.

She came for a variety of reasons including gaining a better understanding of how to manage a top competition barn and its upper level horses, how to market horses to their correct disciplines and to improve her own teaching skills. She also hopes to take advantage of Bonnie’s tutelage with her horse Bentley as she attempts to move him through the levels. As upper level instruction is rare in Iowa, Annie is soaking up the opportunity to train with Bonnie and observes as many lessons as possible.

Marley and Bee

Annie chose Bonnie because she “[has] always admired Bonnie's consistent riding position. I knew I wanted to go to a professional Eventer as a working student to see the "ins and outs" of it all.  My mentor Kiki Osbourne started riding with Bonnie last year on a regular basis and she helped put me in touch with Bonnie and helped me get the position. So far, its everything I had hoped for!”

  1. 2. Marley Stone (photo right), 21, is a long time student of Bonnie’s and has spent several summers working on the farm. A rising senior at Davidson College, Marley majors in History and has just returned to the states from her junior year abroad in Ireland.

Before she fractured her wrist in an unfortunate fall schooling x-c, Marley planned to compete her mare Queen Bee in the CCI** this fall. While her plans have now been put temporarily on hold we expect to see her back in action this coming winter with both Queen Been and her new young mare Ballinlaugh Ice whom she hopes to compete at the preliminary level in the spring. 1. Colin on Monster Mike3. Colin Fraser (photo left), 21, is a rising senior at the University of Virginia. Colin joined us for the summer with his new horse Griffin and hopes to complete his first CCI** at either the Florida Horse Park this Fall or in New Jersey next spring.

Colin has been riding with Bonnie since the beginning of the spring and has previously worked for Boyd Martin and Phillip Dutton.

  1. Emma4. Emma Kramkowski (photo right), 17, is no stranger to Bonnie’s program. She has been a student of hers, working through many summers, for the past 8 years. Emma is a rising senior at Wilmington Friends School and has spent part of her summer checking out colleges in Virginia, hopefully close to Point Above Farm! Emma recently made a successful move up to the Preliminary level this summer on her horses Midnight Masquerade and Tuco Territory. She hopes to complete her first CIC* this fall and is considering a bid for the 2010 NAJYRC CCI* team.

    Sarah Bratton

    5. Sarah Bratton (photo left), 18, is a rising freshman at the Carroll Community College where she will take part in their Hill Scholar Program. She’ll have to get back to you about a major! Sarah came to Bonnie in June of 2009 and has since successfully moved up
to the Preliminary level with her 14.1h
Connemara pony! Sarah plans to compete in
her first CCI*either this fall or spring 2010.

    6. Kyle Egan, 17, is Bonnie’s nephew and was a truly special and unique member of our summer program. Kyle is *not* a rider but he decided to spend the summer before his senior year at Tucson High School with his aunt learning the ropes of her business. Kyle quickly became an invaluable part of our program and we all really miss him now that he has returned home to start school.

If you come over for a lesson you will reap the benefits of hours of Kyle’s work this summer painting and fixing all of our show jumps. Thank you to all of our hard "working" students!
